“The Nest” is a heartfelt reflection of nature’s beautiful moments, and it's my first fine-art offering. This watercolor painting captures a male and female Blue Heron as they work together to build their nest for their family. The inspiration for this piece came from a remarkable experience I had while photographing these elegant birds at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach, Florida.

I spent about 45 minutes observing this devoted pair. The male Blue Heron would venture off to gather branches and other materials, and upon his return, he would present them to the female. With a gentle exchange of beak to beak, she would skillfully arrange the materials, showcasing their true partnership in nurturing their future family.

Witnessing this intimate ritual felt like a blessing, and it served as a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding and respecting one another as humans. Just as the herons collaborate for the betterment of their nest, we, too, must learn to work together, embracing our differences to create a brighter future for our planet. Through this painting, I hope to share the profound connection I felt that day and inspire others to appreciate the simple yet powerful moments of nature while encouraging us all to unite in our efforts to care for each other and our environment.

Heron pairs can stay together for years. They sometimes reuse their nest for multiple years, adding to it each year. The young are cared for by their parents for up to 5 months.

Herons construct their nests from medium to large twigs and line the interior with moss, leaves, grass, and other softer materials.

Blue herons are colonial nesters, and some of the larger colonies can feature some 500 nests or more! Heron colonies are called heronries - herons flock together close to essential feeding grounds and generally return to the same spot every year.

Once your order has shipped, tracking information will be emailed to the email address provided in your order.

Art is shipped in the following manner:

  • Paper Prints: 11x14 paper prints and smaller are mailed inside cardboard stay-flat envelopes. Prints larger than 11x14 are rolled and mailed inside mailing tubes to prevent damage. 
  • Stretched Canvas: Shipped in a protective plastic layer, and sealed in a corrugated box.
  • Framed Prints and Canvases: Wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed carefully with protection on corners. Sealed in a corrugated box.

Paper Prints

Printed on high-quality, archival grade, acid-free, 100% cotton rag inkjet paper.

  • 330 gsm, 17 mil thickness
  • High color gamut, black density, and D-Max for high contrast in both B&W and color reproduction prints.

  • Printed with full bleed (no border)

Stretched Canvas

  • Printed on thick archival grade canvas with eco-solvent inks
  • Canvas arrive with finished sides wrapped around 1.5" thick solid wood stretcher bars so it's ready to hang

Framed Options

Both paper prints and stretched canvas artwork is available framed. We offer four standard colors: white, black, light wood and espresso. If you're looking for another color, please let us know and we can see if we can accommodate. Frames add approximately 1.75"to the overall dimensions of the artwork.
