Beneath the surface, light fades to blue and silence takes hold. A whale shark glides through the depths — vast, graceful, and calm. Guardian of the Deep captures that quiet power, a portrait of the ocean’s gentle giant.
Despite their size and peaceful nature, whale sharks are endangered. Vessel strikes, unregulated tourism, and rising sea temperatures threaten their survival. As filter feeders, they depend on the smallest life in the sea — making them a vital link in the health of our oceans.
I created this piece to honor that connection. Using watercolor, salt, alcohol, and plastic wrap on 300gsm 100% cotton rag paper, I worked to mirror the textures and shifting light of the deep. The result is both tranquil and humbling — a reminder of what’s at stake beneath the waves.
Every original helps fund conservation through my 1% for the Planet commitment.
