In the soft light of the Zambezi floodplains, a small herd of elephants moves with quiet purpose. Elephants of the Mana Pools captures that rare calm — the strength, grace, and deep connection that define one of Africa’s most intelligent and social species.
Mana Pools National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Zimbabwe, is one of the last strongholds for African elephants. Here, they are known for standing on their hind legs to reach the highest branches — a remarkable behavior seen in only a few populations. Yet even in these protected lands, elephants face growing threats from poaching, habitat loss, and human conflict.
Painted in watercolor on 300gsm 100% cotton rag paper, this piece reflects both their resilience and fragility. The loose washes convey the hazy warmth of the African light, while fine detail anchors the focus on the herd’s unity and gentle strength.
