I’ll never forget the feeling of diving off the coast of Belize—completely weightless, just floating in the quiet blue. That day, a green sea turtle glided past me, slow and steady, skimming just above a bed of sea grass. I hovered nearby, holding my breath (even though I didn’t need to), just so I wouldn’t disturb it.

There was a calm in that moment I can’t quite explain—but it stuck with me.

The Drifter pays tribute to that moment. It captures the essence of what I witnessed...and is also a gentle reminder: these quiet places, and the creatures that call them home, won’t stay this way unless we protect them.

Green sea turtles have been swimming in our oceans for over 100 million years—but today, they’re in trouble. Their nesting beaches are disappearing, their food sources like sea grass beds are being destroyed by coastal development, and far too many fall victim to plastic pollution or get caught in fishing nets.

When I swam alongside one in Belize, it struck me just how ancient and peaceful these animals are. And yet, their survival depends entirely on what we do now. Protecting their habitats—especially the sea grass meadows they feed on—is critical not just for turtles, but for the entire ocean ecosystem.
